"As Mexico continues to strengthen its migration policies and grows to be a vertical border for migrants trying to reach the United States, I deem necessary to turn our lens into the experiences of migrants of different origins that are facing a myriad of contexts of violence. The strengthening of the southern Mexican border is in part a reflection of the complex relationship between the United States and Mexico, but it is also the culmination of a long-dated process of differentiation between those that are “welcome” and those that are not. The entanglement between forced migration and organized violence gives us a wide perspective to look exactly at those forms of discrimination and repression suffered by migrants today and perpetrated by institutions as well as by other organized groups."
